Abstract
Cemented carbide hard metals (W0.4Al0.6)C0.5–13.3vol.%Co were successfully prepared by mechanical alloying and vacuum sintering. The impacts of the sintering temperature and time on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the samples have been studied. Both sintering time and temperature have great influence on the mechanical properties, density and microstructure of the specimens. The optimal vacuum sintering condition for this work is 1350°C for 90min. Another phenomenon is that the ƞ-type phases were not discernable in the bulk specimens, although it was prepared by vacuum sintering and the carbon vacancy reached to the astonished 50% value.
