Abstract

Summary A preliminary survey of the VA mycorrhizal fungi in the root zone of 5-month-old field grown Cajanus cajan plants was carried out. Random soil samples were collected and VA mycorrhizal spores isolated. 16 different spore types were isolated from the roots of sorghum plants. The spores were identified based on the revised synoptic key by Berch and Trappe (1989). They all belonged to 6 species of the genus Glomus. The intensity of their occurrence was G. claroideum (50.0%), G. mosseae (18.8%), G. multisubstensum (12.5%), G. caledonicum (6.3%), G. albidum (6.3%) and G. leptotichum (6.3%).
