Abstract

The aim of our research was to further broaden current knowledge of possible energy storage in an off-grid photovoltaic system. Photovoltaic off-grid systems usually require energy storage for their proper function. The storage of electrical energy serves as a bridge for short-term power outages or to draw energy outside the usual times of solar energy generation, such as at night or on cloudy days. Supercapacitors will serve as energy storage instead of conventional rechargeable batteries. The use of supercapacitors in renewable energies can be very promising, as the lifespan of supercapacitors can exceed 100 years in operation. The main objective is to test the behavior of supercapacitors in such system and to assess the potential implementation of supercapacitors in photovoltaic installations from an economic point of view.
