Abstract
AbstractAn extensive deposit of clay like material has been discovered at Bansi in Mirzapur district. It has 62% SiO2, 32% Al2O3 and 2% loss on ignition. The clay is non plastic and has a P.C.E. value of Seger cone 32. Small fire clay brickets were made out of it using different ‘compositions and firing temperatures. The brickets showed a P.C.E. value of Seger cone 30 or above. Porosity ranged between 28–35%. Further trials were necessary to bring down the porosity. It was concluded that fireclay bricks conforming to P.C.E. requirements of I.S. specification for moderate heat duty refractories could be made out of this material.
