Abstract
This paper focuses on the use and functions of proverbs in popular songs in the Brazilian and Portuguese corpus. It is based on some theoretical concepts, aiming at the better understanding of the uses of proverbs in Portuguese and Brazilian popular poetry and its educational and moralizingroles.
