Abstract

The growing use of Cannabis sativa for medicinal purposes, both in human and veterinary medicine, in various treatments, including oncology, has been gaining prominence due to the potentially beneficial therapeutic properties of its compounds. The animal body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) that regulates several physiological functions and is composed of phytocannabinoids that activate cannabinoid receptors type 1 (CB1) and type 2 (CB2), which bind to endogenous cannabinoids (AEA and 2-AG ) and exogenous (THC and CBD). The objective of this review was to research scientific articles on the role of the endocannabinoid system in cancer patients, in order to evaluate the feasibility of using cannabinoids in these patients, in search of improving quality of life.
