Abstract

The borders strengthening issue has always been closely connected with national security in the United States. Today, more than ever, this problem has become urgent because of the large flow of immigrants across the southern border. US President D. Trump and a large part of American society began to consider the newly arriving illegal immigrants from Mexico as a threat to the security of American society. Previously, the “doors” of America have always been opened for immigrants, especially for those who due to poverty and harsh humanitarian situation in their homelands sought asylum in a country famous for its democratic and social values and prosperous economy. However, when D. Trump assumed the mantle of president, the "doors" of the state began to close. Even during his election campaign, D. Trump has repeatedly said that all illegal immigrants are potential criminals. He added that there is no place in American society for them and promised to build a large and powerful wall on the US-Mexico border in order to protect the state from them. Later the construction of the wall turned out to be a very expensive project, which, according to D. Trump, was to be paid by Mexico. However, the Mexican authorities refused to fund the president`s idea. As a result, the wall construction financing issue became the root cause of the political crisis of the confrontation between the President and the US Congress. The article is dedicated to the analysis of D. Trump's approach to the US immigration policy, which is characterized by a strong tightening of immigration, especially illegal. The article examines the southwestern border wall construction financing issue and the longest shutdown of the US government caused by that. D. Trump`s decisive action of immigration law changing faces serious resistance in the US Congress. The result is that the American leader short-circuits the legislative branch of power and exercises the discretionary power.
