Abstract
AbstractNicknames are a central part of Grayhog life at the US Military Academy. Cadets rename others out of need and shared experience. These names can have favorable and unfavorable connotations, and follow predictable rules. West Point cadets follow core linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic rules, and bend other rules in the process.
