Abstract
The Documentary Method as method for analyzing qualitative data is similar to Niklas Luhmann's Systems Theory in its epistemological foundations. This paper discusses the use of a systems theory approach as meta theory for qualitative research and gives examples of how this affects the research process including data interpretation.
