Abstract
Three types of extrapolation have been implemented at JPL with the SEA code “Vibroacoustic payload environment prediction system (VAPEPS).” The simplest type of extrapolation incorporated in VAPEPS uses conventional scaling laws. In a second type of extrapolation, which is not explicitly incorporated in the VAPEPS code, SEA was utilized to calculate and scale acoustic absorption from a small scale experiment. The third and the most comprehensive type of extrapolation available with VAPEPS utilizes SEA equations to scale data from a baseline to a new acoustical and structural configuration. Examples from JPL's Mars Observer and TOPEX spacecraft programs are presented to illustrate these three extrapolation techniques.
