Abstract

One of the problems facing teachers of mathematics in inner-city schools is to find materials with which to begin a course in general mathematics. Since many of the textbooks just repeat material that has led to previous failure, many teachers find that their main source of material has been taken away. To use this same material as a starting point will lead slow learners to ignore the teacher.
