In the introductory course, research methodology typically occupies its own designated spot on the syllabus and in the course (as it does in most introductory texts), rather than being the underlying foundation of the entire course. This pattern is reinforced throughout the sociology curriculum as majors typically are required to take a largely unstructured series of content-oriented courses
