Abstract

Flexible automatic assembly (FAA) systems are essential for automated manufacturing of customized products. This paper suggests a hybrid solution where human operators work together with industrial robots and automatic assembly stations, thereby increasing the flexibility and reliability of FAA systems. To reach high efficiency of hybrid FAA, a balance between system complexity and operator capability must be reached. In the paper a hybrid, flexible, automatic assembly system is presented, and methods to achieve operator/system balance are described.
