Abstract

A new approach to simulation modeling of power devices is described. A software package to be used with CAD circuit simulation analysis programs (such as SCAMPER, ASTAP, or SUPER*SCEPTRE) allows the designer to quickly create specific device models using readily available information on manufacturer's data sheets. This package includes a library of generic device models, and a parameter-generating program for each type of device to generate operational parameters needed by the generic models in a circuit simulation. A few examples of device models developed in this way are presented, with a brief description of how the operational parameters are generated from the very limited information given on data sheets. Good agreement with actual device characteristics (both stacic and transient) are obtained. This approach also makes creating a current library of specific devices very easy, and appears to be ideal for starting a power circuit simulation program.
