Abstract

User-centered design is an essential component in any geoinformation technology development. User involvement and feedback during the development process ensures that the final products meet user expectations, fulfill the task requirements, and provide a stable and suitable solution to enhance the overall user experience. While the International Organization for Standardization provides several guidelines for user-centered design, a wealth of possible data collection and assessment techniques are available that can be employed by application designers at different stages of the product development process. As the geoinformation technology sector will significantly grow over the coming years, geoinformation specialists need to be aware of these user-centered design methods so that novel application developments for mobile devices and Augmented Reality experiences can be developed in a user-centered fashion.
