Abstract
This article discusses the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA's) Climate Ready Water Utilities (CRWU) initiative that was established to provide the water sector with the practical tools, training, and technical assistance needed to prepare for climate change by promoting a clear explanation of climate science and adaptation options. The article discusses decision‐support tools for water sector utilities developed by USEPA's CRWU initiative, including the Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT), a risk assessment tool for water utilities; a CRWU Toolbox that provides a clearinghouse for articles, funding opportunities, research activities, and other informational resources; and, an Adaptation Strategies Guide that outlines climate change impacts and adaptation options for different regions of the country. The overarching goal of these and other resources is to assist water sector utilities in initiating climate change adaptation while continuing to meet their environmental, social, and financial obligations.
