Abstract

Electron microscopy is the most effective technique to obtain directly and dynamically topographic information in the atomic scale, and results in the sensation of both “seeing is believing” and “the materials are living”. In the present paper, advantages of electron microscopy are discussed from the viewpoint of reliability of the results obtained, and its indispensable applications to materials science are shown in some cases including direct formation of non-equilibrium phases at “Micro-Laboratory”.
