Abstract
The nature of the wear of periclase-spinel refractory in the linings with heat insulating layers is practically the same as the wear of periclase-spinel refractory in linings without insulation. The skin on the basic refractories built over a layer of heat insulation forms rapidly, and is maintained better than during the service of these refractories without insulation. The life of the lining with a heat insulation layer in the sintering zone is 1.5–5 times greater than the life of the lining without insulation (Fig. 4). The temperature gradient and thermal strain in the refractory during service in the lining with a layer of heat insulation is less by a factor of 1.4–1.6 than in service without insulation. It will be necessary to supply cement factories with high-grade magnesite mortar for wider use and increasing the resistance of linings with heat-insulation layers in the sinter zone of rotary cement furnaces.
