Abstract

This study proposes a method for screening of contingencies to reduce the computational burden of constructing dynamic security regions. The method exploits the results of the time-domain simulation to calculate performance indices (PIs) for different operating points. The contingencies with less relevant PIs are eliminated as they are encountered in the course of the simulation without changing the boundaries of the security region. The proposed method is tested on a modified New England System and a Brazilian Power System Network, with its actual security regions. The results show that the method is accurate and provides a significant time reduction, making it feasible for real-time operation use.
