Abstract

The use of hollow electrodes in melting of periclase makes it possible to create the evacuation necessary for stable arcing, to reduce the number of strong ejections of molten material from the furnace, to introduce the quantity necessary according to the method of loose additions, particularly of alumina, directly into the molten material, and to accelerate the melting process with the use of an oxygen enriched draft.
