Abstract

The present study describes a new reversed flow injection chemiluminescence method for the determination of the sunset yellow dye in drink samples. This method is based on the dye’s inhibition effect on the emission of chemiluminescence light (CL) generated from the luminol–H2O2–Co(II) system, in a way that a decrease in CL intensity is proportional to the concentration of the dye. The linear calibration graph is obtained in the range of 0.15–11.0 µg/mL (R2 = 0.9993) and detection limit (LOD) = 0.10 µg/mL. The proposed method was applied successfully for the determination of sunset yellow dye in drink samples, and the results are in reasonable agreement when compared with the reported high-performance liquid chromatography method.
