Abstract

Dynamic theory of volume holography is used to analyze the diffraction properties of volume (thick) hologram gratings. We describe a new technique based on the measured Hurter-Driffield curves for predicting the diffraction efficiency characteristics of hologram gratings. We have demonstrated the technique in experiments on a F → Z1 colour centre conversion in KCl:Ca crystals. The theoretical behavior of the diffraction efficiency described by this technique is in good agreement with the experimental behavior.
