Abstract

This study focuses on the use of e-mail in providing library and information services in higher institution libraries in Delta State – Nigeria. A survey design was employed. The nine academic libraries in Delta State constituted the population for the study. A total of 106 respondents duly completed the questionnaire. Simple percentages and frequency counts were used to analyze data. This study revealed that e-mail is occasionally used in providing library and information services in higher institutions. The study further revealed the unavailability of Internet facilities in six out of the nine institutions surveyed, with a corresponding lack of Internet literacy amongst respondents. In view of the enormous benefits in using e-mail in providing library and information services in higher institutions, it therefore concluded that Internet facilities should be installed in all higher institution libraries in Delta State. The Information Technologist Vol. 5 (1) 2008: pp. 42-51
