Abstract
Was attended at the Veterinary Hospital of Unicastelo Descalvado Campus, a female Boxer, seven years old and weighing 24 pounds. The animal had an ulcerated tumor located in the inner left thigh approximately 8cm in diameter. The animal was submitted to the examination of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), where was found a cellularity consistent with basal cell carcinoma. After routine tests such as blood, urine and feces, the animal was pre-anesthetized with levomepromazine (0.3 mg/kg), induced with propofol (3 mg/kg), anesthesia was maintained with isoflurane. Was also made by the epidural the combination of morphine at a dose of 0.1 mg/kg, supplemented with local anesthetic bupivacaine 0.5%, the amount of one ml for four pounds. Thirty minutes before the first surgical incision, was given the antibiotic enrofloxacin (5 mg/kg IV). Was performed resection of the tumor while maintaining a safety margin of about 2 cm along its entire length. To cover the lesion, was created a pedicle axial pattern of the ventral abdomen, preserving the epigastric artery and vein flow. The flap was transposed onto the wound skin of medial left thigh, and the ends of the graft were sutured to the recipient bed, with nylon, in wolff pattern, with nylon. Some simple interrupted suture points were applied between the inner face of the graft and wound bed, using vicryl an attempt to decrease the dead space between the graft and the lesion. The skin wound of the ventral portion at abdomen where was removed the graft was approximated and sutured in a conventional pattern. Postoperative care consisted of administration of opioids tramadol dose 2.0 mg/kg subcutaneously each 12 hours for five days, ketoprofen (2.2 mg/kg) every 24 hours over three days and enrofloxacin (5,0 mg/kg) every 24 hours for 10 days orally. Elapsed 20 days of surgery the wound had healed completely with the adhesion of the graft.
