Abstract

Apple snails, large tropical freshwater snails from the family Ampullariidae have been identified in the diet of the endangered Chacoan peccary, Catagonus wagneri . Apple snail shells of the type found in Paraguay, Pomacea canaliculata, have a mean weight of 7.8 gms (N = 50). No previous reports documenting these gastropods as being included in the peccary's diet have been found.
