Abstract

The neurocardiology team provides innovative, evidence-based care for patients with cryptogenic stroke, stroke associated with a patent foramen ovale, and atrial fibrillation-related stroke in patients unsuitable for long-term anticoagulation. Considerable evidence supports the value of advanced practice registered nurses on process improvement metrics and clinical outcomes; however, current literature in stroke management almost exclusively emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration between physicians. This clinical feature discusses ways in which the adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner can aid in the delivery of evidence-based stroke care and contribute to educational, administrative, and research missions as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary neurocardiology team.
