Abstract

After a brief review of recent literature on the use of student workers, this article will provide an in-depth look at how students have been used and added to the productivity of one acquisitions department. The Acquisitions Department at Georgetown University is divided into four units-Business, Seaching, Forms Searching and Gifts. Students have always been an integral part of each unit; none could function effectively without them. The article will review how they contribute to the production of each unit and how their roles have changed as technologies and methodologies have evolved. It will conclude with a discussion of the pros and cons of student employees for acquisitions work.
