Abstract

ABSTRACT Consortia have been and continue to be important agents in the promotion and adoption of e-books within libraries. As e-book business and distribution models evolve, consortia will continue to acquire e-books for members; they also anticipate assuming new roles to improve adoption, functionality, and integration of e-books into library services and collections. Consortial roles in the future include: increasing education among all parties (librarians, publishers, patrons, and others) about e-books; leading research and experimentation on the roles for e-books in libraries; expanding use of e-book platforms within libraries to accommodate other e-collections; gathering data and improving assessment of e-books and analysis of e-book usage; and preserving e-book content.
