Abstract

The cable TV franchising boom in the US led to a number of interesting alliances between cable TV companies and American universities. The cable companies solicited the support of the local university officials by promising equipment and channel space. The programming appearing on the channel now includes student productions, productions about services the university provides, college credit courses, and character-generated announcements about events on campus. The operation of the channel varies from university to university.
