Abstract

The Biden administration does not yet appear to have an active strategy to counter Saudi Arabia's shift towards greater autonomy in the Middle East. The article attempts to answer the question of whether it is possible in the near future to restore full-fledged allied relations between Washington and Riyadh. The attitude of the US president to the royal family is assessed, it is emphasized that the personal hostility of Biden and Mohammed bin Salman exacerbates strategic differences based on a change in the geopolitical and geo-economic orientations of both countries. It is shown that the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the United States at the highest level did not lead to reconciliation. The consequences of the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement on the Middle East conflicts and their impact on the US position in the region are assessed.
