Abstract
The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) of the United Kingdom recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the Ocean Drilling Program (ODP). The agreement calls for the United Kingdom's “participation, in principle” for the 9 years remaining in the decade‐long ODP, according to an announcement by NSF.Under the terms of the memorandum, the United Kingdom will contribute $2.5 million to ODP each year. In turn, the United Kingdom will be entitled to have two scientific representatives on each ODP cruise and a co‐chief scientist on one cruise a year. British researchers will also participate in ODP planning, including the selection of drill sites, NSF said.
