Abstract

Collection technique and a urine preservative were evaluated as to their importance in maintaining satisfactory conditions when screening and culturing urine specimens. Improper specimen collection rather than delay in transport was found to be the probable explanation for specimens with multiple bacterial species. A commercial urine preservative was of marginal value when transport of specimens was delayed.
