Abstract

Urinary formimino-glutamic acid (FiGlu) excretion after histidine load was estimated by paper electrophoresis in 21 children with nutritional anaemia in the age group 6–36 months and compared with 10 normal subjects. The routine haematological investigations, serum iron and unsaturated iron binding capacity, and serum vitamin B12 were done and the response to therapy with the deficient haematinic was assessed. Urinary FiGlu excretion was raised in 4 children with megalopoiesis. The remaining 17 children had a normal or low FiGlu excretion.
