Abstract

People of South Asia (Indian Subcontinent) faced a threatening situation after their defeat at the hands of British in 1857 in social, religious and economical fields. Especially, Muslims received irreparable setback, as they were held accountable for the war. The post 1857 period post many challenges which were multifarious in nature including the loss of political power, the ruin of their economic basis and a threat to annihilation of Islamic culture both material and non-material. The Muslims scholars and Ulama felt the intensity of these challenges deeply. They purified the minds of Muslims with their written Islamic Literature and influence their mind-set and thoughts. Especially, the Urdu translations of Holy Quran and Tafaseer along with the Islamic Books contributed a lot in the fields of theology, History, Education, Politics, Culture, Economics, Islamic Jurisprudence and Quranic exegesis along with authentic Muslim traditions. This paved the way of freedom for the Muslim of subcontinent. In the proposed paper, an effort will be made to discuss the social and economical influences of Tafaseer during 1857 to 1947 on the Muslims of Subcontinent.
