Abstract
This chapter focuses on Shenzhen’s local real estate developer and their involvement with the urban villages. The modern industry of real estate development first emerged in Shenzhen. Over the years, real estate companies have developed a very interesting relationship with the urban villages. Many private real estate companies were started in the urban villages. Shenzhen is now running out of land for further real estate development. Hence, the urban villages are seen as the last frontier for real estate developers. Through urban renewal, real estate developers have found new profit potentials in the urban villages. The urban villagers have also joined the game and try to profit themselves by partnering with the real estate developers.
