Abstract

ABSTRACT Synergic mixtures of D2EHPA and TOPO are used commercially in the solvent extraction of small concentrations of uranium from wet process phosphoric acid. However, TOPO is a solid at normal temperatures (melting point is approximately 50°C) and this can lead to some materials handling difficulties during inventory preparation and solvent make up. Batch shake out tests show that a new, liquid phosphine oxide (also used in combination with D2EHPA) provides essentially equivalent extraction performance to TOPO.
