Abstract
We studied characteristics of the upper critical field ( H c2 ) of the Tl 2 Ba 2 Ca 2 Cu 3 O x (Tl-2223) system with a Tl-O bilayer and the (Tl 0.5 /Pb 0.5 )(Sr 1.6 /Ba 0.4 )Ca 2 Cu 3 O x (Tl-1223) system with a Tl-O monolayer. Resistivity-versus-temperature curves were measured in applied magnetic fields up to 7 T. The H c2 values of Tl-2223, Tl-1223 at 77 K were 0.75 and 4.8 T, respectively. The H c2 perpendicular to the a–b plane of the Tl-1223 thin film was much higher than that of the Tl-2223 thin film. It was suggested that the H c2 decreased in proportion to increasing the thickness of the Tl O layers, which were insulators.
