Abstract
Marl-limestone sequences in the Arcola Limestone Member (Campanian) of Alabama have been cited as key examples of climate-forced sedimentation resulting from cycles of production and dilution. However, sedimentologic and stratigraphic data from the Arcola presented herein suggest a more probable link between short-term sea-level changes and marl-limestone sequence genesis. Either relative sea-level change caused by intraplate deformation or short-term eustatic sea-level change is suggested as the causative mechanism for deposition of the marl-limestone sequences.
