Abstract
Recent advances in genetics, molecular pathology and oncology have led to discovery of specific genetic changes and distinctive metabolic pathways that contribute to tumorigenesis as well as determine the biological behavior and imaging findings of a multitude of renal cell carcinomas. Multiphase CT and multiparametric MRI play major roles in the detection, localization, characterization, staging, surveillance, and follow-up of kidney cancers. While some imaging features are characteristic enough to suggest a tissue diagnosis, histopathology is required for definitive diagnosis, treatment, and prognostication.
