Abstract

The normative standards support the legal metrological control of the measuring instruments in several countries. In 1999, the Cuban standard NC 44 “X and gamma radiation measuring instruments, verification method” was issued. A year later, this document technically supported the verification service of the area dosimeters as used in occupational radiation monitoring. The standard denoted, at that time, an important update of the technical procedures related to the use of dosimetry quantities and to the testing methods of the instruments. Furthermore, it gave rise to a verification service that increases the metrological control of this instrumentation in the Cuban nation. However, 20 years after the implementation, an update of this standard is needed since new developments are being introduced in the practice. New requirements for manufacturing of the dosimetry instrumentation have been issued including the area dosimeters, the electronic personal dosimeters and the dosimeters working in the pulsed radiation. The requirements for acceptance of the dosimeters for working in those situations together with the evaluation of the uncertainty, as the important element in the decision of conformity, are part of the topics covered in the present work that support the proposal to update the verification standard.
