Abstract
Upconversion and excited-state absorption (ESA) excitation of green luminescence were studied in Er-doped YSGG pumped at 780–825 nm. At high Er concentration (4 × 1021 cm−3), energy-transfer upconversion was the main pump channel for the green Er luminescence; at low Er concentration (2 × 1020 cm−3), ESA predominated at several spectral lines. Upconversion excitation of Cr broadband luminescence through the energy transfer from rare-earth (RE) ions was proposed in Cr,Re codoped crystals. Numerical estimations showed that upconversion efficiency of the proposed schemes can be high enough to reach reasonable excited-state concentrations for both Er and Cr diode-pumped conversion lasers.
