Abstract

The miskal, which is one of our wind instruments, is an important musical instrument which was used in civilian Janissary bands, called “tradesmen Janissary bands” and in treatment with music, both in palace music and in urban entertainment music until the end of the XVIII. Century, during the Ottoman period. The miskal, which showed differences from era to era and was used in harmony with almost all kinds of instruments, is similar to panflute among the Western instruments in terms of form. This instrument, which was believed to have been invented by Pan, the god of shepherds, in ancient Greece, is present within different musical cultures in history. It is an old musical instrument, which was also called as “ the musikâr” in Turkish music.
