Abstract
SUMMARYIn leaf «companion cells» (specialized parenchyma cells associated with sieve-tube elements) of Aristolochia clusii Lojacono, unusual clusters of conspicuous mitochondria regularly and intimately associated are observed. These clusters, which exhibit a striking similarity to those observed in rod cells of the cat retina, are correlated, in Aristolochia, with «wein-loading» and sucrose translocation into the sieve tubes.
