Abstract

Cu2S, ZnS and SnS were synthesized by hydrothermal process with sodium sulfide as sulfur source. Individual sulfides were mixed in the ratio of 1:1:1 and sulfurized by excess elemental sulfur powder at 650°C to obtain CZTS. The effect of sulfurization at 650°C by sulfur powder on the structure, morphology, composition and optical properties of CZTS were studied. XRD measurements reveal high intensity peak for preferential orientation along the (1 1 2) plane direction. Raman spectrum exhibit most intense peak at 336 cm-1 and the shoulder peak at 285cm-1 is observed. The optical band gap is determined to be 1.47eV. EDS spectral analysis led to zinc rich composition as Cu0.33ZnSn0.17S1.5. The electrochemical characterization exhibited CZTS-650˚C has shown oxidized peak Cu2+ ions into Cu+ and Cu respectively. I-V characterization of Al/CZTS/ZnO/FTO heterojunction exhibited photovoltaic behavior with efficiency of 0.48%.
