Abstract

Penetration of surfactant into soil has been discussed before as part of the process of removing fatty/oily soils from hard surfaces. This paper examines this process by means of FTIR-ATR-spectroscopy. This technique offers a way to study the penetration process continuously. The results were confirmed by washing tests. It could be shown that penetration depends largely on the type of detergent used. The results suggest new methods to optimise the washing process.
