Abstract

A wide range of stannous, stannic, plumbous, and plumbic compounds have been exposed to 60Co γ-rays at 77 K and their e.s.r. spectra studied. In most cases very high-field features were detected that can be ascribed to species containing 119Sn, 117Sn, and 200Pb nuclei. These are thought to be Sn3+ and Pb3+ ions bonded to various ligands characteristic of the host lattices. Trends in the derived hyperfine coupling constants are discussed in terms of environmental effects.
