Abstract

The present study will analyse the discovery of an Attic black-figured fragmentary olpe, which was found inside a bothros at the ‘monumental complex’ of Tarquinia. According to its shape and decoration it appears to belong to the olpai associated with the Amasis workshop, and it has been assigned to the Taleides Painter. Both the area where it was unearthed and the fact that part of the foot of the olpe is intentionally missing, suggest a connection with the rituals of the filling of the bothros where it was then deposed and perhaps even ritualistically broken.
