The successful implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which brings together 54 countries with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of over US$3.4 trillion, will enable countries to deepen their linkages to regional and global value chains in an attempt to bridge fragmentation and support equitable growth within the continent and provide a platform for coordination between the many regional economic communities (RECs). The AfCFTA offers an unprecedented opportunity to develop the mine-to-market value chain within the continent, as it unlocks the potential to increase mining sectoral productivity and the overall value of exports.
