Abstract

This paper tries to describe the present status of the academic libraries in Turkey, according to criteria suggested by IFLA in 1987. These criteria include the various dimensions of library services such as purpose, organization and administration, services, collections, staff, facilities, budget and finance, technology, preservation and conservation, and cooperation. By using these criteria the current aspects of Turkish university libraries have been discussed and basic problem areas have been identified as scarcity of financial sources, insufficient number of personnel, and lack of library policy.
