Abstract
Studies of the parametric dependence of energy levels and wavefunctions on changes in external perturbations reveal a new type of universality in quantum chaos. Statistical properties that characterise the universal behaviour display a striking connection to the dynamical properties of a strongly interacting one-dimensional quantum system of particles. We discuss the common mathematical structure which unites quantum chaos, matrix models, and an integrable quantum Hamiltonian.
